Claude Video Effects: 45 video effects with one command in Claude Code

A free Claude Code skill (MIT) that adds 45 effects to a vertical video of you talking: giant words and cards behind your head, spotlight, glass widgets, checklists, a comment that types itself. Full skill to download, a no-code install, every command, all 45 effects explained and honest limits: Claude Code needs a paid plan, no sound or captions, best on talking-head clips, starter versions.

Commented EFEITOS? Here are the 45 effects, the full skill repository and the step by step. It is a free Claude Code skill, MIT licence. You hand it a vertical video of you talking to camera, pick the effect in one sentence, and Claude renders a new video next to the original, on your own computer, with your audio untouched.

The trick: the skill finds your face and cuts you out of the background. That is why the giant word, the cards and the reels go behind your head, not over your face.

Four truths first:

  • The skill is free, Claude Code is not. It comes with a paid Claude plan (Pro and up, US$20 a month billed monthly per claude.com/pricing on 02/11/2026). There is no “free Claude” here.
  • It adds no sound, music or captions. Do that in CapCut or the Instagram app.
  • It works best on a vertical video of you talking to camera. It does not edit any video, and it does not replace CapCut or an editor.
  • These are starter versions of the effects. Sound design and fine timing adjustments are up to you.

What we tested (and what we didn’t)

Tested by us on 02/11/2026, on Paulo’s own footage: we ran the skill’s render script (fx.py) and the effects came out as the README describes. A 16 to 18 second clip with several effects took about 40 seconds on Paulo’s Mac. That is not instant, and another computer may be faster or slower. We also checked that the original version’s ZIP download, unzipped, puts the skill in the right place.

NOT TESTED BY US: typing /efeitos in the Claude Code chat, the install done by Claude itself, and Windows. Those steps come from the repository README.

About the reel: the Claude app screens in the video were recreated by us and sped up. It is not a screen recording, and real renders are not that fast. The “best effect” ranking (spotlight on top) is an illustration, not a vote or a measurement. And “Edited by Claude” means Claude runs the skill’s script; the look comes from the skill.

The simplest path

No coding: you paste one request into Claude Code, then type the effect you want. Allow about 15 minutes the first time.

Get what you need

  • Claude Code on your computer, which comes with a paid Claude plan (Pro and up; see claude.com/pricing). It is not included in the free Claude plan.
  • A vertical video of you talking to camera, ideally with you fully in frame. Start with a short clip.
  • The skill, which is free. Find it in the repository, with the MIT licence.

Full skill, installation and source: github.com/pcauhi/efeitos.

Nothing else to install first: on first use, the skill asks Claude to install ffmpeg (the program that builds the video) and Python if they are missing.

Ask Claude Code to install it

Open Claude Code and paste this request. Step from the docs, not tested by us. Claude asks permission before touching files: read and approve.

Install the video effects skill: run git clone https://github.com/pcauhi/efeitos ~/.claude/skills/efeitos. Do not overwrite any existing skill. Then tell me to restart Claude Code.

Then close and reopen Claude Code. Prefer doing it by hand? See “Going further”.

Let Claude set itself up (first time only)

The first time you use it, Claude prepares the skill by itself: about 2 minutes, per the README. It needs ffmpeg and Python and installs both if missing (on a Mac through Homebrew; if Homebrew is missing, it asks you to install it first from brew.sh). Step from the docs, not tested by us.

Drag in the video and type the effect

Drag the video into the Claude Code chat and type the command, the effect and when it should appear. Examples:

Example
/efeitos orbit from 3 to 6 seconds
Example
/efeitos spotlight when I say "kill the lights", with the word CLAUDE behind me
Example
/efeitos comment-box at the end, typing CLAUDE

Use /efeitos followed by the effect name in English (full list below). The skill instructions are in Portuguese; you can ask Claude Code in English.

README tip: say the moment in plain words (“when I say ‘watch’”). Claude transcribes your audio and finds the exact second. You can stack effects in one request: “orbit from 10 to 13 seconds, then reject-stamp when I say ‘no’”.

Claude plans, checks and renders

Per the README: Claude writes a plan, makes a few still frames to check, fixes anything that covers your face, then renders yourvideo_effects.mp4 next to the original. Your audio stays as it was.

Watch it before you post. Review and approve the result. Don’t like it? Say what you see (“the word covers my face”, “it’s too fast”) and it renders again.

Sound and captions: elsewhere

The skill adds no sound, music or captions. Open the finished video in CapCut or post through the Instagram app and add the music there. (That is what Paulo did for the reel.)

README tips: want your own reels in orbit, noise, phone-fan or profile-wall? Give Claude a folder of screenshots. Charts, counters and headlines should use your real numbers: tell Claude what they are.

Going further

Optional. Steps from the docs, not tested by us (README and SKILL.md, checked 02/11/2026).

Install from the repository

Terminal
git clone https://github.com/pcauhi/efeitos ~/.claude/skills/efeitos

Then restart Claude Code. On Windows (PowerShell), use $HOME\.claude\skills\efeitos as the destination.

What happens under the hood

  1. Setup: Claude runs bash scripts/setup.sh, which creates a Python environment and installs numpy, opencv-python, pillow and mediapipe. It prints READY when done.
  2. Word timing: when you say “when I say X”, words.py transcribes the audio with Whisper (mlx-whisper on a Mac if installed, otherwise faster-whisper).
  3. Plan: Claude writes yourvideo_effects.json with each effect, start and end.
  4. Check: fx.py makes still frames in the middle of each effect; Claude looks and adjusts.
  5. Render: fx.py makes the final 1080p mp4 with the original audio. Ask for 4K if you want (the README warns it is slower).

Useful options

  • Short windows look best: 1.5 to 4 seconds per effect (SKILL.md).
  • Zoom never goes past 2x, so the video stays sharp.
  • Camera effects (locked-on, lean-in, spotlight) go first when they overlap others.
  • Many effects take text and colour, for example backdrop-word with text and color, todo with items separated by |.

Quick questions

Do I need to code?

No. You paste one request and type the effect in a sentence. Claude runs the commands for you and asks permission first. It helps to know where your Downloads folder is and to read what Claude asks before approving.

Is it free?

The skill is free (MIT licence). Claude Code is not: it needs a paid Claude plan (Pro and up, US$20 a month billed monthly on 02/11/2026). ffmpeg and Python are free.

Does it work on my computer? On my phone?

It runs on your computer, inside Claude Code: the README covers Mac and Windows. Not on a phone. You can of course film on your phone and move the file to the computer.

Does it work with any video?

It works best on a vertical video of you talking to camera, with you in frame. The effects follow your face, so videos without a person, screen recordings or landscape footage are not the use case.

Is it safe?

  • Everything runs on your computer: the video doesn’t go to any editing website. (Claude Code talks to Anthropic, so what you type in the chat goes through them.)
  • First-time setup installs software (ffmpeg, Python and libraries). Claude asks permission first: read what it will run.
  • The code is open (MIT) and available in the effects repository.

Honest limits

  • Not instant: in our test, 16 to 18 seconds of video with several effects took about 40 seconds to render.
  • No sound, music or captions.
  • Best on vertical talking-head video; it does not edit any video.
  • It does not replace CapCut or an editor: it is a shortcut for specific effects.
  • Starter versions: review the result and adjust timing before posting.
  • Claude Code is paid; the skill is the free part.
  • The Portuguese version (/efeitos): Paulo translated and adjusted it; he did not create the skill.
